WET: The Magazine of Gourmet Bathing and Beyond

WET was first published in 1977 and quickly evolved into an eclectic celebration of art, music, fashion, photography, and pop culture, shaping the California New Wave aesthetic. Its innovative, experimental use of graphic art also positioned it as a precursor to present-day graphic styles (NSFW).

With a quirky flair for the absurd, WET emerged among the vibrant, creative milieu of Venice Beach in the late 1970s. It was a playful exploration of “bath art” by its founder Leonard Koren, showcasing people bathing as a metaphor for indulgence, sensuality, and creativity, portrayed in a smart and artsy LA attitude.

But WET created lasting cultural impact beyond its pages, giving early visibility to now-iconic creators like David Lynch and Matt Groening, and even influencing the style and layout of Artforum. The daring design and unconventional editorial voice of WET continue to inspire and make it a timeless example of how print media can push boundaries while sparking cultural revolutions.

The Château Cramirat Collection is a treasure trove of art and design by philosopher Anna Ravitzki and designer Dan Alexander, housed in a 12th-century Templar landmark in the Valley of Mankind, Périgord, France.
