Helmut Newton’s Illustrated (1987-1995) 1st Edition / The Château Cramirat Collection
The iconic photographer Helmut Newton, dubbed ‘the King of Kink’ for bringing irresistible sex appeal and provocative glam into the art of fashion photography, published some of his most powerful work in a magazine that he self-edited, called Helmut Newton’s Illustrated (1987-1995).
Art directed by his wife June, only four issues of the magazine were ever published. From erotic nudes to sultry photojournalism to celebrity portraits, the Illustrated showcased a mix of fetishistic fantasy scenarios that echo the power of women – with and without clothes.
This visual statement disrupted the entire field of fashion photography and left a lasting impression on readers, ultimately subverting conventional perceptions of gender and power.
The Château Cramirat Collection is a treasure trove of art and design by philosopher Anna
Ravitzki and designer Dan Alexander, housed in a 12th-century Templar landmark in the
Valley of Mankind, Périgord, France.
