Château Cramirat Collection

Alvin Lustig’s original cover design for American Fabrics quarterly (1951-52) / The Château Cramirat Collection

Anything Alvin Lustig is gold to us at Château Cramirat. In this rare copy of the early ‘50s magazine, American Fabrics, Lustig contributed an article about the development of modern printed textile production and he also designed the cover of the issue in his distinct style, lending the feeling of fabric swatches that seem like a contemporary artwork.

The genius of Lustig, who is considered to be one of the most influential midcentury American Designers, is introducing principles of modern art to graphic design and design in general. He believed in the power of good design, applying it to all aspects of life, from interior design to textiles, blending art forms and blurring the boundaries of creative disciplines while establishing new standards that are still viable today.

American Fabrics quarterly was the leading reference tool for research on lifestyle, tastes, fashion, style, and fabrics in America and beyond, and Lustig was a member of its editorial board.

The Château Cramirat Collection is a treasure trove of art and design by philosopher Anna
Ravitzki and designer Dan Alexander, housed in a 12th-century Templar landmark in the
Valley of Mankind, Périgord, France.
